The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard physical horror, but within Together exists a deep contemplation about how we choose to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the actors infuse a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when Tim and Millie move from the metropolis to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar narrative setup, sure, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a strange force begins influencing the duo. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the kind of problems that come with long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor avoids being overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake right now.
