Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five touchdowns this season
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run from the Brady period as they beat division opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three scores as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
QB Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory extends the New England's lead at the top of the division as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The Jets had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a short rushing score to finish the New York's first possession
But the Patriots fought back in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21-7
"It was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Fields found John Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Borregales converted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the win
